Introduction to Cedar Strip Boat Building
This one hour PowerPoint presentation which covers a little bit of the history of the canoe and kayak and then describes the basic steps in the construction of the cedar strip boat. The presentation will also touch on various other construction methods and the pros and cons of each. The notes from the presentation will be provided for you along with a list of other resources for books, websites and the sources for materials useful to this type of construction. The class will meet in the boat shop where individuals will have the opportunity to see examples of the boats, tools and materials used in their construction and ample time for questions and discussion.
