Introduction to Woodworking
Saturday, June 3rd, 2023
Time: 9 AM - 4 PM
Class size: Maximum 6 people (age 14 and older)
Instructor: Dawne Olson
Tuition: $100
(a *$50 non-refundable materials fee is required to hold
your place in the class)
This workshop will introduce you to the basics of woodworking. In the morning you will be learning about wood species and buying, choosing and sourcing wood for your projects. You will be shown some basic sets of tools that will equip you to do woodworking. Proper use and safety of each tool will be demonstrated and tips for a safe working environment will be provided. A list of resources for building up your own set of tools will be sent home with you.
In the afternoon you will be able to work independently on a project that can be completed within a 3 hour time frame. This year's project is the Leopold Bench. Renowned wildlife professor Aldo Leopold wrote the book, A Sand County Almanac. You can read more about him and the bench at this link: Build a Leopold bench - DNR News Releases (iowadnr.gov) If you have a different project that you would like to complete during the afternoon, please submit it to me for approval by April 10th so that I can be sure to determine if it is do-able within the given time and that the materials will be on hand for you. (email me your ideas and questions at 4windswoodcraft@gmail.com).
A light lunch will be served!
Contact me to if you would like more information or to schedule your group for this workshop.
(I only require a deposit when I am buying and preparing materials specifically for your project so that I can cover my expenses in the event that you are unable to attend.)
Most of our group chose to build this small bench. But one lady made a compression quilt rack and another made a barnwood frame for a full length mirror. |
